BEHOLDING JESUS CHANGES YOU

By Pastor Ayo-Simeon Agbelusi

God’s purpose for every believer goes beyond receiving blessings. He desires that we progressively become more like Jesus Christ in our character, conduct, words, attitudes, and relationships.

The scriptures declares:

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory…” — 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)

Paul reveals a powerful principle of spiritual growth: we are changed as we behold the Lord. You are not just looking but you are beholding the Author and the Finisher of your faith.

Whatever continually occupies your attention will eventually influence your life. When you consistently behold Christ through His Word, prayer, worship, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, His character gradually becomes evident in you.

You begin to love differently. You forgive more readily. Your reactions become more gracious. Your priorities change. Sin loses its attraction, and pleasing God becomes increasingly important.

This transformation does not happen through human determination alone. Paul says that it happens “by the Spirit of the Lord.” The Holy Spirit works within surrendered believers, changing us from one level of spiritual maturity to another.

Therefore, never become discouraged because you still see areas of your life requiring improvement. Bring those areas continually before Christ. Remain in His presence. Stay in His Word. Respond to the correction of the Holy Spirit.

God is still working on you. Your responsibility is to remain available, teachable, obedient, and surrendered. The more you behold Jesus, the more your life should reveal Jesus.

Ask yourself today: “What area of my character needs to look more like Jesus?” Choose one—perhaps patience, forgiveness, humility, love, self-control, or compassion—and prayerfully practice it throughout the day.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, search me and reveal every attitude, habit, and character trait that does not glorify You. Holy Spirit, change me from within. Help me to grow in love, humility, holiness, patience, forgiveness, and obedience. Give me a deeper desire for Your Word and Your presence, In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
