THE COMPARISON TRAPS

By Pastor Ayo-Simeon Agbelusi

Everything in your life appears good and satisfactory until you start giving in to the temptation of comparison and consequently trapped by it. For instance, your income, career, or marriage will continue to bring you joy until you begin comparing your status and progress with those around you. You are uniquely created and must learn to appreciate and celebrate the blessings God has bestowed upon your life.

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV

The scripture above demonstrates how the comparison trap serves as a means to foolishness. It is crucial to avoid being entangled in its destructive web. As the mastermind behind various aspects of your life and family, adopting a prudent approach and exercising vigilance regarding your own life will empower you to evade a multitude of challenges and pains stemming from comparison. In our contemporary society, numerous hearts are wounded, primarily owing to discontentment and lack of self appreciation. Comparing your life circumstances to others can give rise to feelings of restlessness and discontent. The Lord has designed a personalized plan and program for your life, and it is vital to appreciate and value what you have. Failing to do so can lead to reckless decision-making and a lack of peace. Make a deliberate decision today to embark on a more intentional and productive life journey, grounded in the assurance that God has perfected your story ever before you were created.

Let’s Pray: Dear Father, I ask that you forgive each act of comparison that has led to difficulties and challenges to my life. Help me appreciate all your blessings and grant me joy in all areas of my life in Jesus’ name.
