WALL STREET OR STREET OF GOLD

By Pastor Ayo-Simeon Agbelusi

People’s attitudes toward money in the church have changed over time. Some question the need for tithes and offerings, yet many remain faithful in giving to God and supporting His work. Our generosity should flow from gratitude and love for the Giver of every good gift.

Where are you laying up your treasure? How faithfully are you serving the Lord and blessing humanity with the gifts and resources He has entrusted to you?

The Bible declares:

“Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal.”

— Matthew 6:19–20, WEB

Beloved, there is nothing wrong with earning, saving, or investing wisely. The danger comes when money takes the place of God in your heart. Earthly wealth can serve a useful purpose, but it cannot purchase salvation or secure eternity. Jesus reminds us that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).

Let your resources reflect your devotion to God. Support the spread of the gospel, care for those in need, and give willingly and cheerfully. Giving is not a payment for God’s favor; it is a response to His grace and an expression of His love through us.

As you prepare for your future on earth, do not lose sight of eternity. Let your investments on Wall Street never distract your heart from the street of gold. Use what will pass away to serve purposes that will endure.

Prayer: Father, keep my heart free from the love of money. Help me to honor You with all You have given me, bless others generously, and live with eternity in view. In Jesus’ name, amen.

  1. Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal. Really so true
