THE POWER OF A THANKFUL HEART
By Pastor Ayo-Simeon Agbelusi
Thanksgiving is one of the most powerful spiritual disciplines you are expected to cultivate as a believer. A thankful heart recognizes God’s goodness, acknowledges His faithfulness, and remains confident in His promises regardless of present circumstances.
The Bible says: “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Many people thank God only after receiving answers to their prayers, but mature Christians learn to thank Him before the manifestation because they trust His words know that He can never lie. Gratitude shifts our focus from what is missing to what God has already done. It reminds us that the same God who was faithful yesterday remains faithful today and will be faithful forever.
In Psalm 103, the psalmist clearly commanded his soul to bless the Lord and not forget His benefits. It is easy to remember problems and overlook blessings, yet every day carries evidence of God’s mercy; life, health, provision, protection, salvation, and the gift of His presence.
A grateful believer grows spiritually because thanksgiving keeps the heart humble, joyful, and dependent on God. Complaints weaken faith, but gratitude strengthens it. When praise fills your heart, worry loses its grip and peace begins to reign.
Today, take time to thank God intentionally. Count your blessings and celebrate His faithfulness. The God who has brought you this far will surely complete what He has started in your life.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your goodness, mercy, and unfailing love. Forgive me for every time I focused more on my challenges than Your faithfulness. Fill my heart with gratitude and help me to continually praise You in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
