GOD IS YOUR REFUGE
By Pastor Ayo-Simeon Agbelusi
Refuge simply means a place of safety, protection, and shelter, especially in times of trouble, danger, or distress. In everyday terms, a refuge is where you go when you need to feel secure and protected.
The Bible says: “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust…” — 2 Samuel 22:2 (KJV)
Life has a way of bringing moments that feel unstable, times when circumstances shift unexpectedly, and what once felt secure suddenly feels uncertain. In those moments, the heart naturally searches for something to hold onto, something that will not move when everything else does.
David’s describes God as his rock, his fortress, and his deliverer. Each of these speaks to stability, protection, and rescue. A rock does not shift under pressure. A fortress does not easily fall to attack. A deliverer does not abandon in times of trouble. This is who God proves Himself to be for those who trust in Him.
What makes this powerful is that David wrote these words after experiencing many hardships, dangers, and uncertainties. His confidence in God was not based on an easy life, but on a faithful God. He had learned that even when life felt unpredictable, God remained steady.
There will be times when you cannot control what is happening around you, but you can choose where you place your trust. When you anchor your heart in God, you are not placing your hope in temporary stability, but in an unchanging foundation.
If today feels uncertain or overwhelming, remember that God is not distant from your situation. He is present as your refuge. You can lean on Him, trust in Him, and find strength in Him. What feels unstable to you is not unstable to Him.
Prayer:
Father, in your mercy, please be my strength, my protection, and my steady foundation. Remind me that You are always near and always faithful, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
