THE WEIGHT OF UNFORGIVENESS

By Pastor Ayo-Simeon Agbelusi

There are too many commandments of the Lord that some believers take for granted. One of them is forgiveness. There’s no other strong blocker to divine encounters and blessings like unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is a heavy burden you must never desire to carry. It weighs people down, consumes their thoughts and drains their energy. You are too precious a soul to be trapped in cycles of bitterness and resentment.

Remember, your forgiveness by God is predicated on your readiness to forgive those who sin against you. This is not a suggestion—it is a spiritual law rooted in the very heart of the gospel. God offers us unlimited mercy, but He expects us to become channels of that mercy to others.

In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus emphasized: “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Unforgiveness is a stubborn spirit. It locks the heart; it turns wounds into walls and translates pain into poison. You cannot hold on to anger and still reach out for grace. God will not pour fresh mercy into a heart that stores resentment. Forgiveness is not approving the wrong done, it is graciously choosing freedom over bitterness, healing over hatred. Every time we kneel for forgiveness, heaven looks at how freely we release others from their debts against us.

Think of how often God has wiped you clean from your sinful engagements. How many times has He erased your faults, silenced your accusers, and covered your shame? He now expects you to extend that same hand of release. Forgiveness is not weakness—it is divine strength. It is saying, “What God did for me, I choose to reflect toward you.”

Prayer: Father, thank You for forgiving me countless times. Give me the grace to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Heal my heart, break the chains of bitterness, and help me walk in the freedom of true mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
